It can be difficult, if not outright daunting, to find a swimsuit that looks cute, flatters your frame and is unique too. Though we may already have a couple of guides on chic swimwear pieces to own, there's one other way to make sure you won’t be sporting the same suit as everyone else: shop local.
After all, there’s no one better than a local to understand what we need in terms of fit, fashion and function. Here are four Singaporean swimwear labels that are currently on our radar for our winter getaways:
K.Blu
Founder of K.Blu, Lyn Rosmarin, was inspired to create a swimwear brand while on a quest to find a swimsuit that fitted her well and didn’t show off too much skin. She told The Straits Times: "Like me, most Asian women generally have shorter torsos compared with Caucasian women. Also, my chest is smaller and my hips are not as wide. I couldn't find anything that suited me back in those days. I was frustrated and said to myself that when I have a chance, I want to make my own."
Her brand carries a bevy of swimsuits ranging from modest one-piece suits to bohemian style bikinis. The designs are vivid and colourful, boasting of charming prints such as batik and porcelain. Whatsmore, the brand’s Curve collection has a size range that goes up to UK 18 to fit bigger cup sizes and a diverse range of bodies.
Prices range from $125 to $300
Pink Salt
The local online swimwear and resort wear brand Pink Salt creates pieces with modern refined lines and contemporary patterns. Think futuristic shapes, geometric lines and subtle colour blocking with a neutral colour palette.
Made to accentuate the female figure without showing off too much skin, Pink Salt’s swimwear pieces can be seen in modest cuts such as a toga neckline or a high halter neck.
Prices range from $129 to $159
Delta
Focusing on unique and wearable designs made with premium fabrics, Delta upholds a minimalist aesthetic with understated swimwear pieces that are not too loud. You can expect to find one-piece suits that are cut shorter to suit Asian frames, a clean and simple colour palette with minimal splashes of print and versatile designs such as removable paddings.
All pieces are priced at $77
August Society
What stands out about August Society, apart from the striking tropical prints seen on the swimwear, is the fact that it is an ethical and environmentally responsible brand that commits to using sustainable fabrics.
The fabrics used are made from recycled waste plastic that would have ended up in a landfill or the ocean. Aside from that, the high quality Italian-made fabric used by the brand also contains XtraLife Lycra® to help retain its shape. Modest options such as long-sleeved rash guards and tankinis add to the diversity of designs offered by the brand.
Prices range from $69 to $139
